Tamiya King Tigers

Post by Saxondog »

Hey Guys,I am considering bidding on two Tamiya King Tigers#58004,the posting says these are 20yrs.old but otherwise complete and partially built. The kits seem to have the older transmissions,A radio for one is included for one.Metal Tracks, wheels, sprockets are included. So are these worth having and can they be upgraded to a more modern standard.I may be required to bid as much as 400.00us for both and would value the opinion of the more experienced members. Thanks Blake

hi blake, im sure the hulls are the same, so yes you could swop the gearboxs out ,BUT by the time youve fitted new boxs, dmd /mtu units /speaker and wiring, i would personaly wait for the newer version ,

from the info i have on them the newer gearboxes can be installed and the only other difference is the wheels the oilder type i believe dont take bearing races like the newer version but that can be easily rectified with a couple of wheel sprues

the electronics are different to the newer full option k/t

My KT is the old 56004, and i replaced the gearboxes with 3-1 reduction boxes and the electrics for Heng Long electrics to keep it on the cheap, but if it's the latest Tamiya stuff you want to put in it, then i also say wait for a full option one to come along, it will probably be cheaper

the one in the picture is new and partly assembled all the small parts like cables and tools need to be painted and installed and the tank camoed to your choise the running gear is done ready for electrics the older one needs to have gearboxes installed and tracks and i think i have a set of 3
;1 steels gearboxes here for it you will need to make your own mounting holes to put them in and the turret needs a new bottom but i have a metal barrel for it brand new
